Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive way of treating a number of sports injuries and long-term tendon problems such as heel pain (plantar fasciitis) and Achilles pain. Research has shown great success rates and is very safe compared with the alternatives.

About Shockwave Therapy

What is it?

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive, non-electrical, high energy sound wave that passes through part of the body via a handheld probe, targeting the affected area. It produces a rapid increase in blood circulation to the target area, helping to break down scar tissue and triggering a cell activation which stimulates a healing response.  By increasing circulation and breaking down scar tissue, this therapy helps to stimulate cell regeneration and promote normal healing and rapid reduction of pain.

It is great for:

- Achilles tendonitis - Plantar fasciitis/heel pain - Tennis elbow/golfers elbow - Patellar tendonitis - Quadriceps tendonitis - Iliotibial band friction syndrome (ITBFS) - Trochanteric hip pain - Other tendon problems

Will it help me?

All of these conditions can be stubborn and hard to treat if they don’t get better with manual therapy, but before this therapy existed the next step would often have been surgery! It has a success rate of about 80%, so it does not work for everyone, but does help most people even when other treatments have failed.

What happens in a treatment?

The treatment does not take very long, around 5-10 minutes. The power of the machine can be changed throughout the treatment to accommodate the client and to ensure they are always comfortable.

Most treatments will use 3 bars of pressure, but our machine can cope with up to 5 bars, expanding the option of treatments that we can provide here at Balance 360. We also have a range of attachments for the applicator to provide a further range of treatments. This includes a focused titanium head designed for better conductivity and maximum effect on deeper tissues, and a larger 35mm head designed for treating cellulite and other aesthetic treatments.

Lastly, it’s most likely that the majority of issues we will see will take 4-6 treatments to resolve, with a gap of 5-10 days between each treatment to accommodate the body's healing process.

A minimum of 3 treatments will be required30 min

A woman in her 60s visited our clinic with heel pain, particularly when walking or exercising. Recently focused on losing weight, she was concerned that the increasing discomfort in her foot would set her back, causing both physical and emotional frustration. In an effort to self-treat, she tried stretching her foot and calves, using over-the-counter insoles, and taking ice baths, hoping these would alleviate her plantar fasciitis. However, after months of worsening pain and no lasting relief, she researched further and decided to try shockwave therapy.

She booked a series of three weekly shockwave treatments and began noticing improvements within days of her first session. While she experienced some tenderness initially, the discomfort quickly subsided. In conjunction with targeted exercises designed to support her plantar fascia, she felt marked progress. By the end of her second week of treatment, she was experiencing only slight discomfort, mainly in the mornings.

When we followed up with her four weeks after her final treatment, she was delighted to report a complete recovery—no pain when walking, standing, or exercising, allowing her to continue her weight loss journey pain-free.

TESTIMONIAL

"I made a booking via the website and attended a session and then 5 more after that, now I don’t use pain killers, orthotics or compression socks and the pain is improving after every visit. I am able to stand more and in the morning out of bed less pain which is amazing I will continue until it has gone completely!"
