What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive, non-electrical, high energy sound wave that passes through the body via a handheld probe. It produces a rapid increase in blood circulation to the target area, helping to break down scar tissue and triggering a cell activation which stimulates a healing response.
By increasing circulation and breaking down scar tissue, Shockwave Therapy helps to stimulate cell regeneration and promote normal healing and rapid reduction of pain.
What does it treat?
This service can help to treat a wide range of soft tissue and bony conditions. Some of these conditions include:
Plantar Fasciitis
Shoulder pain (e.g. calcific lesions or tendinopathy of the rotator cuff and bony spurs
Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
Medial epicondylitis (golfer elbow)
Patella tendinopathy (jumper’s knee)
Hamstring tendinopathy
Tibial stress syndrome (shin pain)
Achilles tendinopathy
Hip pain (greater trochanteric pain syndrome)
Heel pain, heel spurs
All of these conditions can be stubborn and hard to treat, but you’re looking at an 80% success rate with Shockwave Therapy!
What does treatment consist of?
The treatment does not take very long, around 5-10 minutes. The power of the machine can be changed throughout the treatment to accommodate the client and to ensure they are always comfortable.
Most treatments will use 3 bars of pressure, but our machine can cope with up to 5 bars, expanding the option of treatments that we can provide here at Balance 360. We also have a range of attachments for the applicator to provide a further range of treatments. This includes a focused titanium head designed for better conductivity and maximum effect on deeper tissues, and a larger 35mm head designed for treating cellulite and other aesthetic treatments.
Lastly, it’s most likely that the majority of issues we will see will take 4-6 treatments to resolve, with a gap of 5-10 days between each treatment to allow the body to heal.
